Abstract

Choirokoitia (Χοιροκοιτία) is a village of exceptional cultural and historical value, internationally recognised for hosting one of the most important Neolithic settlements in the Eastern Mediterranean. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Neolithic Settlement of Choirokoitia represents a milestone in human prehistory, offering unique insights into early organised societies, architecture, and social structures dating back to the 7th millennium BC.

Beyond its archaeological significance, Choirokoitia is a living community that preserves traditional architecture, local customs, and a strong sense of identity rooted in its landscape and history. Today, the village stands at the intersection of heritage preservation, community life, and sustainable development, aiming to protect its cultural assets while embracing modern tools and practices that enhance accessibility, awareness, and long-term resilience.
