Abstract

AVALON envisions the design of reliable and flexible, secure and private, scalable wireless system that supports highspeed communication (in the order of 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps) in beyond optical line of sight transmission distances that even reach 100 m, with almost zero-delay by taking advantage of the optical spectrum, pioneering technological advancements, such as metasurfaces for ensuring uninterrupted communication in obstacle riddled environments, and ML based design of medium access, resource allocation and network management techniques. For the realization of this vision, a novel system model will be developed and analyzed that will contain physical, medium access control (MAC) and resource management (RM) layer design considering the particularities of the optical band, a pioneering beyond Shannon theoretical framework will be extracted, and network ML methodologies that allow integrated and accurate communication and sensing will be proposed. These results are expected to “open the door” for the realization of novel highly capable underwater optical wireless networks for military applications.

IANUS' Role

IANUS serves as the Project Coordinator as well as the Communication and Dissemination Leader of the project, ensuring broad visibility at national, EU, and international levels. It organizes events, manages consortium-wide communication, promotes consistent and efficient outreach, and supports risk management, GDPR compliance, and the Data Management Plan. Monaco
