Abstract

BattleVerse is a European Defence Fund (EDF) Research Action that develops a next-generation military metaverse to support advanced mission planning, training, and execution across multi-domain operations. The project bridges real and virtual battle environments by combining high-fidelity simulations with Digital Twins of military assets, terrain, and environmental conditions, enabling realistic and dynamic operational analysis.

Through AI-driven scenario generation, adversarial modelling, and reinforcement learning, BattleVerse allows military planners and commanders to test multiple Courses of Action and assess potential adversary responses in a virtual battlespace. Built on a service-based, cloud-native architecture and aligned with defence standards such as STANAG 4603 and HLA, the platform follows a Modelling and Simulation as a Service (MSaaS) paradigm, ensuring scalability, interoperability, and integration with existing defence systems. By incorporating real-time data from the Internet of Battlefield Things and physics-based simulations, BattleVerse enhances decision-making, mission readiness, and Europe’s strategic defence autonomy in increasingly complex operational environments.

IANUS' Role

IANUS Technologies Ltd participates in BattleVerse as a beneficiary SME, contributing expertise in defence-oriented software systems, secure architectures, and EU-funded project execution. Within the IANUS is actively involved in communication, dissemination, and visibility activities, contributing to structured outreach, stakeholder engagement, and alignment with European defence priorities. By supporting collaboration across industrial, research, and defence stakeholders, IANUS helps maximise the impact, adoption potential, and long-term relevance of BattleVerse, reinforcing its role as a mission-ready, human-centred simulation and decision-support platform.
