Abstract

The project concerns the design and implementation of a secure digital research platform for the Cyprus National Addictions Authority (ΑΑΕΚ), in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the National Guard. The initiative aims to collect scientifically valid data on attitudes, perceptions, and experiences related to substance use and addictive behaviours among conscripts and professional soldiers (ΣΥΟΠ) of the Republic of Cyprus.

The research is conducted with absolute anonymity and full compliance with GDPR, ensuring that no personal or identifying data are collected at any stage. Through a structured online questionnaire and a transparent participation process, the project supports evidence-based policy design, enabling competent authorities to better understand risk patterns and develop targeted prevention and support interventions within the military environment.

IANUS' Role

IANUS was responsible for the complete technical and operational implementation of the project, covering the full lifecycle from system design to final delivery. This included the development of the digital research platform, the secure integration of the questionnaire provided by the ΑΑΕΚ, and the implementation of mechanisms ensuring strict anonymity and data protection. IANUS designed and deployed the full digital architecture of the platform, including the survey workflow, server-side submission logic, data processing and storage, and a protected administrative dashboard for authorised stakeholders. Special emphasis was placed on transparency, reliability, and integrity of the process, including the implementation of a server-controlled reward and participation verification mechanism using unique, non-identifying participation codes. In parallel, IANUS supported the project with the design and adaptation of promotional and communication material, working closely with the ΑΑΕΚ through iterative review cycles to ensure alignment with prevention principles, institutional requirements, and ethical standards. Through its technical expertise and methodological rigor, IANUS delivered a robust, secure, and fully operational solution, enabling the effective and trustworthy collection of critical data for national prevention policy planning.
